Petra is one of those rare sites that exceeds the photos. Give it two full days — most people give it half a day and miss the best of it.
Where to stay
Stay in Wadi Musa (the town at Petra's gate). Movenpick is at the entrance and worth the upgrade; Petra Guest House is the budget pick literally inside the site.
How to get there
Fly into Amman (AMM) from London Heathrow in 5h, then drive 3h south to Petra. Or fly into Aqaba (AQJ) and drive 2h. A Jordan Pass bundles entry + visa.
Don't miss
Be at the Siq for opening (6am) to see the Treasury empty. Hike up to the Monastery (900 steps, worth every one). Combine with two nights in a Wadi Rum desert camp.
