Lisbon is the best-value capital in Western Europe and one of the most beautiful. It's a city built for wandering — every alley climbs to a viewpoint, every tile tells a story.
Where to stay
Príncipe Real and Chiado are the sweet spot — central, walkable, full of small restaurants. Alfama is the most atmospheric but very steep. Skip Baixa unless you want pure tourist core.
How to get there
Lisbon Airport (LIS) is a 20-minute Uber from the city centre. From the UK, flights are 2.5 hours and often under £80 return outside summer peak.
Don't miss
A pastel de nata fresh from Manteigaria, a fado evening in Alfama, and an early train to Sintra (go on a weekday, leave by 8am).
