Patagonia

Glaciers, granite spires and end-of-the-world wind

Patagonia is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and worth every hour of the journey. Plan for weather changes by the minute and book lodges months ahead.

Where to stay

For Torres del Paine: refugios on the W trek if you're hiking, EcoCamp Patagonia if you're not. Base in El Calafate for Perito Moreno, El Chaltén for Fitz Roy.

How to get there

Fly to Santiago or Buenos Aires, then connect to Punta Arenas (PUQ) for Chile side, or El Calafate (FTE) for Argentine side. Allow a full day of travel from the UK.

Don't miss

Hike to Mirador Las Torres at sunrise — the towers turn pink. Take the boat onto Perito Moreno glacier. Day-hike Laguna de los Tres in El Chaltén.

Highlights

  • Torres del Paine W trek
