The Maldives is a one-purpose destination: switch off completely. Pick a resort with a great house reef and you barely need to leave the island.
Where to stay
Resort choice is everything. For honeymoons, prioritise overwater villas with a private pool. For families, look at South Malé Atoll resorts with kids' clubs and short transfers. Local-island guesthouses on Maafushi or Dhigurah are a fraction of the price.
How to get there
Fly into Malé (MLE), then either a speedboat (10–90 min) or seaplane (20–50 min) to your resort. Seaplanes only operate in daylight — book flights that land before 3pm.
Don't miss
A night snorkel with reef sharks, a dawn paddleboard, and at least one meal on the sandbank if your resort offers it.
