Amalfi Coast

Lemon groves above a cobalt sea

The Amalfi Coast is what Italy looks like on a postcard — vertiginous cliffside towns, lemon granitas, and the world's most photogenic coastal road.

Where to stay

Positano is the icon and the priciest. Praiano next door has the same views for half the rate. Amalfi town itself is the best transport hub. Skip driving — base yourself somewhere with ferry access.

How to get there

Fly into Naples (NAP), then take the train to Sorrento (1h) and the SITA bus or ferry along the coast. In summer, direct ferries run from Naples to Positano and Amalfi.

Don't miss

Walk the Path of the Gods from Bomerano to Nocelle, take a small-boat tour of the Blue Grotto, and book dinner at La Tagliata in Montepertuso for views and house wine.

Highlights

  • Path of the Gods hike
  • Positano beach
  • Ravello gardens
  • Capri day trip
